2025 Spending Trends

Travellers are spending big and exploring more

Travel propensity

People remain hungry for travel. 80% of travellers globally are planning to take more or the same number of trips in 2025 as they did in 2024. Just under half (43%) want to travel more, with only 7% likely to take fewer trips. 

Those from India, the UAE and Brazil plan to travel the most. A higher proportion of travellers from Europe and North America are more conservative in their outlook, saying they’ll take the same number of trips. Japanese travellers are the most uncertain; 27% remain undecided about their 2025 travel plans.

Travel spend

Flights

70% of travellers worldwide are planning to spend more or the same on flights in 2025 compared to 2024. 37% plan to spend more, 33% the same and 11% less.  

Half or more travellers from India (58%), the UAE (64%), Saudi Arabia (51%) and Brazil (50%) are planning to increase their travel budgets.  

Travellers from APAC countries like South Korea (44%), Singapore (42%) and Australia (36%) are indicating more moderate spending plans, with 30%-40% saying they’ll increase their budgets.  

European and American travellers, on the other hand, are budgeting for smaller increases in travel spend, with a desire to maintain their current outgoings. 

Accommodation

When it comes to accommodation spending, 68% of travellers globally plan to spend more or the same compared to 2024. 31% plan to spend more, 37% the same and 13% less.

Travellers from India (45%), the UAE (44%), Brazil (42%), South Korea (40%) and Saudi Arabia (40%) are the most likely to increase their accommodation budget and choose more expensive rooms than last year.

Europeans and North Americans, however, are looking to be more cautious – a significant proportion are planning to either maintain or decrease their accommodation spend.  

Car rental

Half of travellers worldwide (46%) are planning to up their budgets or keep them the same for car hire in 2025, compared to 2024. 19% want to spend more, while 14% plan to spend less.  

Those from India (34%), the UAE (28%), Saudi Arabia (24%) and Brazil (26%) are the most keen to spend more. In the majority of countries surveyed, around a third of travellers indicated they plan to keep their car hire spend the same. Across Europe, many were unsure about car hire next year, responding 'N/A'.

Ancillaries spend

Flights

The top five flight ancillaries travellers are likely to spend extra money on in 2025 are seat selection (35%), insurance (35%), better quality food (26%), extra baggage (24%) and airport lounge access (19%). 

Who's the most willing to pay for an upgrade to first or business class? Travellers from India (37%), the UAE (31%), Saudi Arabia (26%) and Brazil (23%). For UK, Australian and Singaporean travellers, flight insurance is the most popular.

Accommodation

A high number of travellers are willing to pay more for extra comfort. Overall, 29% are likely to upgrade their hotel room, while 25% would shell out for a hotel with an extra star rating. 

South Koreans are the most willing, with around half (47% and 51% respectively) likely to upgrade their stay, followed by travellers from the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The least willing to upgrade are Europeans (from the UK, Italy, Germany, France and the Netherlands) and Japanese travellers. 

Car rental

When it comes to car hire, fewer travellers are willing to upgrade to a better vehicle or book an EV or hybrid. The figure is just 13% worldwide. Those most likely to, however, are from India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Brazil. The least likely are Europeans, Canadians and Japanese travellers.
